Nobody knows Tokaj better than the winemakers, many of whom go back generations in the region. And there is no better way to spend a day in Tokaj than in the hands of a winemaker, who can give you a true insider’s view of the region and its prized wines. Taste Hungary’s Tokaj Winemaker’s Tour offers a unique opportunity to spend a half-day (four or five hours) with one of our winemaker friends who will show you the special places that only a local knows and tell you all of the fascinating stories behind the places, the people, and the wines.
Your winemaker/guide will pick you up from your hotel in Tokaj (or meet you somewhere if you are just coming to Tokaj for the day) for a personalized insider’s tour of the region. The tour will begin with a visit to their own winery, a tasting of their wines, and an explanation of how they do things and the complex processes involved in producing Tokaj wines. Next, you can tour some of the vineyards (most wineries have vineyards in many different locations), many of which offer fabulous views of the region, for a close-up look at the vines. As you drive around the region (either in the winemaker’s car or your own), you can stop off in some of the historic villages and cellar rows in this UNESCO World Heritage region. When you are ready to sample some more wine, your winemaker/guide will take you to another winery for a visit and a tasting. Depending on the date, we can also arrange a home-cooked traditional lunch at the winery (lunch is not included in the price). If you are headed to Tokaj on your own there’s no better way to experience the region than with a memorable day spent in the hands of one of its talented winemakers.
Price: 35,000 HUF per person (based on a minimum of two guests). We require a 50 percent deposit paid in advance to book the tour.
