Tokaj Harvest Day Trip

Saturday October 9 (new date added!)
and
Saturday October 16

Come experience the Tokaj harvest season with us! We will spend the afternoon visiting several wineries and vineyards, where there will be the opportunity to help pick some grapes and see the famous aszú berries (the botrytised grapes used for making sweet Tokaj wine). The harvest in Tokaj occurs later than in other regions to give the grapes the chance to reach the “noble rot.” There will be plenty of food, conversation, and great wine throughout the day.

{7:30am} Depart from Budapest. We will meet at Batthyány tér and will depart promptly.

{10am} Tour, tasting of four wines, and presentation of the winemaking process in Tokaj at the Patricius Winery, where we will also visit the vineyards, taste some grapes, and help pick aszú berries (if they are ready).

{11:45} Visit the vineyards of Hudácskó Pincészet, a small family-owned winery, and pick some aszú berries (if they are ready) with the winemaker.

{12:15} Tour Hudácskó’s winery and cellar. Afterwards, there will be a four-course lunch, prepared by the family, with pairings of eight to ten wines.

Consommé (Húsleves)
Catfish Paprikás with Sztrapacska (Potato Dumplings)
Roasted Duck with Potatoes and Sautéed Cabbage
Curd Cheese and Apricot Jam Tart with Meringue (Rákóczi Túrós)

{3pm} Walk around Tokaj’s historic center.

{5pm} Cellar tour at Erzsébet Pince, followed by a tasting of six wines with the winemaker (on the terrace, weather permitting). The wines will be accompanied by five types of local goat cheese, made by a biodynamic cheesemaker (who will be joining us to present her cheeses).

{7:30pm} Depart for Budapest

{10pm} Arrive back in Budapest, drop-off at Batthyány tér

The price for this day trip is 30,000 HUF per person, all-inclusive of transportation and the above wine tastings and meals. A 15,000 HUF booking deposit (payable via paypal or bank transfer) is required to reserve your spot. Email us for details or to book your spot.
